Does He Suffer from Retarded Ejaculation?

By:
Ruth Westheimer

Question :

Although we have always had a great sex life, my husband of seven years cannot reach orgasm anymore. He says he gets to where he is about to ejaculate, but it just will not come. The same thing happens during masturbation. We haven't had any problems in our marriage. Could this be something physical? What is retarded ejaculation -- could this be the problem? I can't get him to see a doctor -- he says he's too busy. I know you can't diagnose him, just please give some ideas of what it could be. Thank you so much!

Answer :

I most certainly can't diagnose him, though I can absolutely say that he must go to see a urologist. I'm sure this is bothering him a lot more than he's letting on, but men can be very stubborn when it comes to seeing doctors. Maybe what you should do is make an appointment for him and go with him as well, in other words, drag him there if you have to. Don't let this slide just in case this problem is indicative of something more serious that should be taken care of right away.
