Food Labels: How Fat Content is DescribedFood manufacturers want you to believe that everything on the supermarket shelves is good for you. But what do all those healthy sounding words really mean? Mr. Food has the answer! Fat-free: The product contains less than 0.5 gram of fat per serving. Saturated fat-free: The product has less than 0.5 gram of saturated fat per serving. Low-fat: The product has no more than 3 grams of fat per serving. Light: The product has 50 percent less fat or 1/3 fewer calories per serving than the traditional version of the food. Reduced-fat or less fat: The product has a minimum of 25 percent less fat per serving than the traditional version of the food.
